This was the first podcast filmed/ recorded from my home hospital bed and I couldn't imagine a better guest and a better topic.
*for those of you who don't know, I suffered a bilateral quad rupture on July 13th competing in a powerlifting meet. I lost my balance and fell with 750lbs on my third attempt. For anyone interested in that story, you can watch my vlog series here.
This podcast was special because Coaches Corner U was founded as a partnership between myself and my friend, Tony Montgomery. Tony has since moved on and is currently pursuing his PhD at Oklahoma State University in the field of Exercise and Mental Health.
Tony is a great friend of mine, former US Marine and someone with a very unique view on life. One that I cherish deeply.
In this episode of the podcast, Tony and I discuss the benefits and research of doing hard things and seeking discomfort within your life. We also discuss how that can change your identity and shift your perspective on such challenges.
You can listen to the podcast here.
The main take away from this discussion was this:
We can only improve ourselves by seeking discomfort. This discomfort changes us on a cellular and biochemical level. These changes can completely shift the trajectory of your life and we should all seek out more ways to "do hard things" in our day to day lives, rather that run from them. When you take the easy road, you're doing yourself a disservice.
Now, how are you going to help your clients and athletes implement this mindset into their own lives?
I'd love to hear your thoughts...
